Canon FD lenses on EOS cameras

In the era before digital SLR's, Canon FD lenses ruled the earth.

To be more precise, the FD mount preceded the EF mount that is used in all modern autofocusing Canon cameras. There are also FL mount lenses that are worth investigating. (the FL mount preceeded the FD mount). My interest in the FD mount is more than just nostalgia - these are superb lenses and it is possible to use them on modern EOS cameras.

There are a number of issues adapting them (discussed below) and when you do get them adapted to an EF mount EOS camera, they will only be manual focus. They are often excellent bargains.

Your choice is either to use an adapter, or to have the lens modified. Adapters are cheap, but have a number of serious drawbacks. Modifying the lens is a tricky and/or expensive proposition.
