Home computer
I maintain two computers at home.
The main machine runs Fedora linux and has a giant monitor.
The other machine runs Windows 11 for the sole purpose of supporing
photography and running Adobe lightroom and photoshop.
The hardware in both machines is at least 10 years old. Intel i7 machines.
But they do just fine. Both used to have Nvidia GeForce 1030 cards.
No fans, no noise. They worked fine and supported 4K monitors.
I do not play games and probably never will.
However in June of 2025, I purchased a Gigabyte RTX 3060 card with
12G of video ram for the linux machine. The motivation was that I
intend to run Davinci Resolve Studio.
Computer hardware is always a moving target, and one that I don't make any serious effort to
follow closely. I pop my head up now and then and try to take stock of things
when I get in the mood to upgrade my hardware, or help someone else do so.
