The Vim editor - sharpen the saw

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I did most of my learning back in 1980 with the original "vi" editor. My knowledge (and most importantly my habits and muscle memory) have served me well for 40+ years.

The question arises whether I would benefit from taking some time out from other activities to extend my knowledge, and learn some of the newly developed vim features. Even if it doesn't yield enhanced productivity, it is always interesting to learn new things.

There is one possible drawback. Restricting my habits to the original "vi" subset means that I can use the vi editor (which may not be vim) on routers and small embedded systems. Many of these use "vi" that is part of "busybox" on those systems. This is a risk I am willing to take.

What are vim text objects? I have used "dw" forever to delete a word. You can use "daw" and "diw" to delete words and inner words. And much more.
