Video - DaVinci Resolve - Studio (the paid version)
Some important things up front:
- The price is $295 (once and forever)
- You must (un)install any free versions before installing it.
- You can run it on 2 computers at the same time.
- You can deactivate it on one, the activate it on another (if 2 computers are not enough)
The two computer thing is important to me, as I want to install it on both my linux machine and
on my windows machine. I don't really want to run it on windows, but having it there is sort of
a backup if I have issues on linux.
Also I am reading that once you have a key, it works for all future versions.
At least that has been the case from at least version 12 through 18.
Why pay money?
Apart from the multitude of extra features, if you plan to run it on Linux, Studio is a big plus.
The free linux version does not support as many codecs as the Windows version.
The reason why is that Microsoft has already paid license fees for codecs (and of course
passed the cost on to you) -- whereas on Linux those codecs cannot be used unless
somebody pays money -- the Studio version takes care of all that.
Hardware products
The offer both a keyboard and a "speed editor".
The keyboard sells for $595 -- even if you find this as a bundle that includes "studio" that is
pretty steep. Also I like my ergonomic keyboard.
The speed editor sells for
While searching this, I saw Adorama had a used speed editor -- with software -- for $215.
I ordered it on 4-9-2024 with some trepidations. If it shows up without the activation key
I have 180 days (if I read it right) to return it.
