A budget-friendly, USB-powered cardioid condenser microphone
I plug it in and see:

Maybe.
I am running Fedora 44 with xfce. I go to Multimedia -- Volume Control and select the "Input Devices" tab. I see "USB PnP Audio Device Mono" with a fluctuating "meter". Indeed this is the Fifine -- I can see the meter fluctuate when I talk into it.
However, DR does not see any signal. The only microphone option it gives me is "Default" and that very likely is the currently unoccupied jack on my motherboard "sound card".
I read further and am told that getting the Fifine to work is tricky. DR uses ALSA, but modern linux uses pipewire (or pulseaudio). There are alsa compatibility plugins for Fedora:
dnf install alsa-plugins-pulseaudioNow I stop and start DR. In the edit window, I find the little microphone icon, and when I click on it, I see a meter fluctuation. The audio input simply says "Default".
