Hacking gphoto2 and libgphoto2

This little set of notes is not about how to do evil things with gphoto2, but rather how to understand and work with the source code; hacking in the good and creative sense.

The first thing to get straight is that there are two dependent packages. The down and dirty stuff gets done by the libgphoto2 library (which is actually a collection of libraries, one per camera type -- but we are getting ahead of ourselves). The gphoto2 command line tool is actually kind of a demo application that makes use of the libgphoto2 library. (The gtkam program was intended to be a graphical application that could be used in lieu of gphoto2, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside).
