The GIMP, my peeves

Does the GIMP frustrate me?
At one time I wrote:

While the Perl folks strive to make easy things easy and hard things possible, the Gimp aims to make anything possible, but everything obscure and hard.

For some time the GIMP literally drove me crazy, but things are getting better and I can manage to crop and resize an image now, as well as do other things.

The interface is NOT straightforward, and you just have to put in a lot of time playing with it. Photoshop books can actually be helpful, as long as you are willing to be fuzzy about details and poke around in the gimp for something that looks and works similarly.

I need to work more with photoshop and see if Adobe has managed to design a better interface. I will let you know.
