RamanLab

RamanLab is a software package written in Python by Aaron Celestian at the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History. I have installed it, but do not yet have any experience with it.

Python virtual environments

The instructions for RamanLab encourage you to set up a Python virtual environment for it. I did not do this for my Fedora install and it seems just fine. I understand (and sigh deeply) why this is recommended. Python and various libraries are not stable. What works today may not work tomorrow, and if your system updates software regularly (as it should), things that an application like this depend on may change and cause it not to work. I am resisting the temptation to take off on a long rant here.
