Moving software licenses

Before I shut down and junk my Windows machine, I want to think about moving software.

DaVinci Resolve

I only ever installed the free version on Windows, so there should be no issue. DaVinci allows activation on two computers. I could go to Help --> Deactivate License on the old computer before setting up the new one. This has no meaning for the free version.

Helicon focus

There are no image files to move. The single user license allows install on 4 computers at the same time, but only one copy can be used at a time. If I go beyond 4, I need to contact them at support@heliconsoft.com So they indicate no way to "uninstall" the license on my Windows machine. If I ever hop through more than 4 machines I will need to contact them.

Adobe lightroom

Adobe has a 2 computer activation limit. On my old device I can open Creative Cloud and go to Help --> sign Out --- or I can sign out via my Adobe account page.

I will need to find and copy my catalog folder. I go to Catalog Settings on the old computer and then copy the entire folder to the new computer (Pictures directory). Then on the new machine I double click on the latest .lrcat file to open lightroom and reconnect everything.

Files on an external drive should be on ExFAT, not NTFS, but this matters not to me. Mac generally uses /Users/Name/Pictures/2026_Photos
