The mac mini -- KiCAD

KiCAD is a schematic and circuit board design program.

I use Google to search for "Kicad download for mac". This takes me to their download site, which recognizes I am on a Mac. I select a download site (I use MIT). It takes while (it must be pretty big).

This yields a .dmg file marked 10.0.6. This is 1.4G in size.
When I double click on this, I get the usual thing -- a cute image that wants me to drag KiCAD to Applications in the cute installer.

There is also a "demos" thing shown there. I also drag it to Applications, but I don't think that is really the idea. I drag this to the trash.

For the demos, I do the following. In a terminal window I "mkdir KiCAD" so I have /Users/Tom/KiCAD. Then I use finder. Go to Locations -- Tom and I see the KiCAD directory I just created. Then from the cute installer image, I drag demos all the way out of the installer to the KiCAD dingus I just found in finder.

This yields what I want -- a directory KiCAD/demos under tom. This directory contains about a dozen demos that I can investigate.

Now under Applications I see KiCAD shown as a folder, and it contains KiCAD itself along with several tools and components. KiCAD is actually a front-end for several things that were unified and turned into KiCAD. So some (many?) of these things ought not to be launched on their own, or perhaps only if you know what you are doing.
