Western Boots
You don't need to wear boots to ride a horse, but there are
advantages to doing so. Boot heels and stirrups are made to
work together for one thing. And when you need to apply your
heels to the horse, the message is clearer with less effort when
you are wearing boots.
As with all footwear, fit is everthing.
But cowboy boots fit differently than all other footwear.
Here are some guidelines.
- Your foot should not slip in easily.
There should be some resistance.
- You should hear a thump as your foot hits the insole.
- The top of the boot (instep) should feel like a firm handshake.
- The heel should lift less than an inch as you walk.
