SPS (Sierra Peaks Section) lists
The SPS have selected 50 peaks as being of special note,
the top 15 are considered "emblem peaks", the next 35 are considered "mountaineers peaks".
The emblem peaks are (from south to north):
- Olancha Peak
- Mount Whitney
- Mount Williamson
- Mount Kaweah
- Mount Brewer
- Mount Clarence King
- Split Mountain
- Mount Goddard
- North Palisade
- Mount Darwin
- Mount Humphreys
- Mount Abbot
- Mount Ritter
- Mount Lyell
- Matterhorn Peak
Of these I have climbed Whitney (via the east face) and North Palisade.
I climbed Mount Goddard via Starrs route (an interesting route on an otherwise dull mountain),
but did not finish the hike up the talus to the summit of Goddard, so cannot actually claim it
Finding Split Mountain on the list is a bit of a surprise, given I had dismissed its class 2 route
from the north as uninteresting. I have been close to Mt. Darwin, but passed it by, maybe another
time I'll revisit the Evolution area.
