We have two users, "pilot" and "pilot2". The important thing to know is that "pilot" has a home directory on the crater disk, and pilot2 has a home directory on the dorado disk. The pilot2 account is network mounted from dorado onto crater. The pilot account is network mounted from crater onto dorado. The vital aspect of this is that if crater dies, the pilot2 account on dorado will still work (the pilot account on dorado would be entirely useless in such a failure scenario). There is a lot more to the business of handling a dead sun, and there is a whole document on this elsewhere with lots of details.
Here is what the mount command on dorado shows us:
/home/pilot2 on /d0/pilot2 read/write/setuid/dev=80001b /home/pilot on crater:/d0/pilot remote/read/write/setuid/noquota/dev=4980002
How do the files get mirrored onto the pilot2 account on crater?
