FPGA - Vivado under the hood

I installed the Xilinx "webpack", for which I am quite grateful. I have a "Vivado 2021.2" icon on my Fedora 35 desktop. Clicking on that launches Vivado after a substantial delay.

I am wondering in a general way what might be possible in the way of bypassing the Vivado IDE and directly using command line tools. This has univerally been my approach in every other situation where I have been confronted by an overly patronizing IDE.

Looking at the "launcher" for this icon, I see that it runs:

/tools/Xilinx/Vivado/2021.2/bin/vivado
This turns out to be a bash script.
