My notes on the Ergodox EZ "shine" keyboard

I now have (as of August 24, 2020) an Ergodox EZ "shine".

Back at it, October 22, 2021

That's right, I set aside my Ergodox for over a year! I realized it was going to take several weeks of practice to even make it useful and I was working on projects at the time that I was unable or unwilling to set aside to learn the Ergodox. As always, patience is the key. Being in a hurry just leads to frustration, stress, and failure. So I am back at it again with no expected schedule and things are already going much better.

A comment up front after what I am now learning by fooling with the keyboard. The shape and layout are what led me to buy the keyboard, but they are only half of the story. They are actually less than half. The big deal that goes with it is the versatality and the capacity for customization. You can define up to 32 layers. The default layout defines 3, and the third is more or less useless (in my opinion). The point is there is lots of headroom for customization.

After some sessions practicing with the factory shipped layout, I looked at some other peoples layouts and I can see reasons already for wanting to make changes.
