Logic Analyzers - SUMP

SUMP is some kind of Java software. This in itself is enough to make me turn elsewhere.

Apparently the Open Bench Logic Sniffer I have was sort of birthed along with SUMP.

Reading the above, it isn't clear which came first, the software or the device. What they describe is programming a Digilent Xilinx Spartan 3 starter kit (DO-SPAR3-DK), and then using that as a logic analyzer. The OLS device I have apparently came later as a lower cost option. They mention that the Digilent board was available for $100 at the time, and the OLS ended up being sold for $50.

Along with history, there is a lot of background information about how the device works and even the VHDL involved.

At this point, all of this makes for interesting history, but I am not going to try to use SUMP client with my device.
