Java - links and online resources

There is a plethora of online information on Java. There is so much that it is very hard to recommend things that are good for someone either just getting started or someone interested in getting quickly up to speed.

I tripped over his second Java book (the OO Java book). The OO book looks good, but only the first chapters are free on the web, for the whole thing you have to buy his 309 page book. Take a look at the free chapters and see if you think the rest is worth $29.
