C# -- What Visual Studio do you want?

The question also is: "What Visual Studio can you get?"

On linux you can get Visual Studio "Code" and that is it. This is not an IDE, but sort of an "editor on steroids" that sort of works as an IDE. Some people even prefer it to "real" Visual Studio because it is lighter and faster.

If you do want "real" Visual Studio, you are out of luck unless you are working on Windows. On Windows, you can decide how much money you (or your employer) want to shell out. If money is no object you get the Enterprise edition. Next is (I think) the Professional edition. If you want something free, Microsoft is kind enough to provide the Community edition -- but again only for Windows.

So on linux, the game is to use VS-code or dotnet via the command line.

A suggestion for something like Visual Studio that runs on linux is Jet Brains "Rider".

This is not free. I see $150 per year for an individual license.
