Tucson Rock Climbing - the Outcroppings

This is a sport climbing area high on Mount Lemmon that offers some easy and safely bolted routes that are ideal for beginners. In many ways, I feel this may be the best beginner area on the mountain.

To get there, drive to the Palisade Ranger Station (almost) and take the left turn just before the Ranger Station (Organization Ridge Road) and drive about 0.5 mile and park at the Palisade trail trailhead. Don't go down (or up) the Palisade trail. Go maybe 100 feet further down the dirt road behind you, go up on the bank and look for a burned stump. You end up skirting what I think is the boy scout camp on the south and then drop down onto the cliffs from above. There will probably be cairns and a beaten path to follow. Climbing here offers a nice view of the upper part of Sycamore Creek.
