Hurt Butt Buttress

This route is in Cochise Stronghold, in the Dragoon Mountains of Arizona. Cochise county.

If you know the Stronghold, this is the peak north of Cochise and Rockfellow dome. Point 7015 as marked on the USGS 7.5 minute map. ( 31.9355, -109.9795 )

The climbing route ascends the southeast ridge of Point 7015. There is also an undocumented route on the south/southeast face. This is easy fifth class.

The hiking club (SAHC) climbs the easiest route on the north side. This involves somewhat complicated 2nd - 3rd class route finding to a notch east of the true summit, then 4th class to the top. I am told this route spirals around the peak at least once on the way up.

For some reason this climb seems to be omited from the pair of new guidebooks to the Cochise Stronghold. Maybe it is too pedestrian for the new crop of hot-shots.
