2000 Tacoma throttle position sensor (TPS)

This is one of the easiest repairs imaginable. I read that charges will typically be around $200. The part cost me $30 and took about 30 minutes to install.

It all began with the service engine light. My code reader showed one code: P0120 -- which is the throttle position sensor.

I found a seller with genuine toyota parts on Ebay and paid $28 with free shipping. It arrived in what looks like a legit toyota box (red and white). Marked 89452-35020, made in Japan.

The sensor is right on top of the engine and easily accessible. Two screws (philips) hold it in place. It was not hard to remove the connector (3 pins) without breaking any plastic. You need a short screwdrive to get at the screws. I used a bit on a ratchet, and recommend that. A hose makes getting to the top screw difficult. I removed a 10mm bolt holding the hose down which allowed just enough motion to get to the screw.

I fretted about about the sensor position when installing, but left it as delivered and took care that it mated without mischief to the black tab that turns it. Then I cleared the code and went for a test drive. Seems must fine.
