Headlight restoration

The headlights on our 2006 Honda Accord had gotten terribly oxidized and yellow. There are various "cures" involving toothpaste or baking soda. What I did was to buy the 3M headlight restoration kit. This has 500, 800, then a 3000 "trizact" abrasive disk. You use your own electric drill.

You sand dry with 500 and 800, then wet with the 3000 trizact, then you apply two coats of the liquid they supply in sealed packets.

Meguiars also sells a confusing variety of restoration kits. Some have suggested that you can buy the Meguiars liquid separate from the kits and that it is superior to what 3M supplies. They sell a "keep clear" headlight coating in an aerosol can. I have not investigated any of the Meguiars options.
